Cherry and Serviceberry Blossoms

These are the serviceberry above the entrance at Schmitz. 

This is a native serviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia) in bloom right now. It is perched above the entrance to the Preserve at the Schmitz Court trail entrance. You can also see it from the walkway up past the pickleball court or from Arrowroot Street. 

Washington Native Plant Society says: "A show of white flowers in spring, tasty dark blue berries in late summer, yellow leaves in fall, Serviceberry is more than just serviceable. But this deciduous shrub does serve, and admirably—adaptable to hillsides, roadsides, stream sides, and rock slides, not to mention open forests and against the garden fence."

It is also known as Juneberry, or Western Serviceberry.
