I have been asked why the small plot of native Garry oak trees on the map marked in the green box can't be more useful with a trail or bench or such amenities. Here is what I think is the reason. When the original request was made to develop the 260 acres in 2015, the original developer got permission to develop the property if they left 41.6 acres of native oak habitat as a set-aside area. The 2016 Habitat Management Plan evaluation found that the area set-aside was only 39.8 acres, so they were required to add another 1.95 acres. This seems about the size of the undeveloped set-aside on Oakwood St shown on the map. So, they cannot make any trails or do anything to the stand of native oaks on Oakwood St. to comply with the regulation to set-aside a total of 41.6 acres undeveloped native oak habitat.
