Trees - McAllister Park

Norway Maple in McAllister.
Easily confused maples.
Leaf in red color on 19th probably not Norway.
s. Norway Maple leaves are often mistaken for Sugar Maple leaves, but they do have some distinguishing features. These leaves are wider than they are tall, have anywhere from five to seven lobes that are sharply pointed, their sinuses are usually U-shaped, and their leaves typically turn a pale to orange-yellow colour during the fall. Perhaps one of the Norway Maple lea… See more

Ovation Trees

Hinoki Cypress
This one is on the grass mound.
Chamaecyparis obtusa is a species of cypress native to central Japan in East Asia, and widely cultivated in the temperate northern hemisphere for its high-quality timber and ornamental qualities, with many cultivars commercially available.

Paper Bark Maple
This one is a beautiful red-orange.
"A handsome tree with an oval to rounded crown, an open habit, and upright branching. Soft green leaves turn scarlet in fall. Becomes distinctive and elegant with age, as its papery sheets of bark peel to reveal cinnamon-brown new bark. An excellent small landscape specimen or woodland understory accent. Deciduous."
Maple on 36th, yellow with some red on top.

Three Varieties of Oak Trees

English Oak Trees.
English Oak acorns.
English oak acorns are oval, ~1 inch (2.5 cm) long, and have a distinctive cap covering about a third of their length, appearing on a long stalk that gives the tree its name (Quercus robur). These acorns, which turn from green to shiny brown as they mature in autumn, are an important food source for wildlife.
Garry oak (Oregon white oak) acorns are round, smooth, and coffee-brown when mature, falling in the autumn. They serve as a vital food source for wildlife and are a keystone species in their ecosystem.
The scarlet oak (Quercus coccinea) is a fast-growing, deciduous tree native to eastern North America, known for its vibrant scarlet fall foliage and glossy green leaves. Growing 50-60 feet tall, it thrives in full sun and well-drained, often dry and sandy, soils.
Mixture of scarlet acorns and undeveloped acorns.
From under scarlet oak by Pavilion.
The fruit is a 1/2- to 1-inch-long acorn that occurs singly or in pairs and is half covered by a deep bowl-like cap

Trees in Ovation

Monterey Cypress
This tree is by the parking lot at the Bowthorpe Ct display homes.
Cupressus macrocarpa
Hesperocyparis macrocarpa also known as Cupressus macrocarpa, or the Monterey cypress is a coniferous tree, and is one of several species of cypress trees native to California. The Monterey cypress is found naturally only on the Central Coast of California.

Pedunculate Oak
There a few of these oaks on the knoll next to Oakwood.
Quercus robur, the pedunculate (or "English") oak, is a species of flowering plant in the beech and oak family, Fagaceae. It is a large tree, native to most of Europe and western Asia, and is widely cultivated in other temperate regions. It grows on soils of near neutral acidity in the lowlands and is notable for its value to natural ecosystems, supporting a very wide diversity of herbivorous insects and other pests, predators and pathogens.
