Owl Cavity Tree Crashes

The little owl in the stump cavity.

The tree on it's side.

Cavity is circled.

The right half was rotted out.

Not much of a base holding it up. 

Cedar Wood for Birds

Several cedar pieces next to this pond.

I planted a variegated ivy into one of the pieces.

 

More Bunches of Snowdrops

These were all on the bench side of the path.

 

Iris in the Preserve

There are iris plants all over the area by the snowdrops.

Also a lot of daffodils in there.

This clump was under a rock.

I covered it with dirt.

Two flowers in bloom in the meadow.

Snowdrops in front and right are from the preserve today.

I hope they will bloom so I can see their flowers.

Wood Ducks

I took this picture of 2 wood ducks on the log on Feb. 15.

Today, they were not there. 

Snowdrops Area

I found a couple more clumps of blooming snowdrops.

There were also a couple in the uncovered area that were blooming. 

Uncovered several bearded iris also in the area.

Northern Pygmy-Owl

I hear an unusual loud repeated call in the preserve 

and my Merlin Bird sound ID

said it was a northern pygmy-owl.

I didn't see it but the repeated loud call must have been something.

There were a lot of birds in the preserve and lots of calls today.

It is a beautiful sunny day. 

Clearing Snowdrops Area

This area has a lot of plants but no flowers.

After clipping snowberry and blackberry vines and raking out the garbage. 

I took this clump to give to my neighbor Gail. 

Wood Ducks

Still one pair of wood ducks in the pond. 

The water level in the pond is going down.

Saw a pair of wood ducks in the pond.

Fewer mallards as well. 

No activity near the holes in the tall stumps.

 

Wild Double Snowdrops Rescue

I had to remove these big stones to get to this clump of snowdrops.

These were in the location of the old cabin.

They were buried and I am hoping they will recover.

Robust and incredibly attractive, Galanthus nivalis 'Flore Pleno' is a double snowdrop, which produces dainty, nodding white flowers with multiple green edged petals.  Slightly fragrant, the fluffy blooms rise atop a foliage of narrow, grayish-green leaves in late winter - early spring.

These were near where the old house stood.

It was hard to get a good picture.

Gorgeous little beauties.

I am sure the hawk and Carolina Chickadee are not in my area.

Not sure about Brant but they are in my area.

These were all at the pond. 

I also got the wood ducks and a pileated woodpecker which I accidently deleted.

I found the snowdrops in the Preserve today. 

These are in front of a tree near the path. 

Wood Ducks

Mindy and I saw 4 wood duck drakes and 1 female.

We wonder if the females are nesting. 

There are several mallard pairs.
