I just learned from Phil and Joan that these are wood ducks.
Now I need to go look at them with my binoculars!

Wrens

This might be a Bewick's wren.
It came in close as I was sitting on the patio.
I learned it is named after Thomas Bewick who wrote an illustrated bird book in 1797.

Brown Bracket Fungus

I found these beautiful bracket fungus on the forest floor.
There were several of these near the owl stump.
They might have been on some pieces of stump.

New Bird Feeding Sticks

I created another clump of sticks for suet next to the black bench
and today the sparrow found it.
The junco was there also.
This is my view from the cubbie.
I hope to see lots of birds there in spring.

I am glad to see this song sparrow go onto the suet in the sticks.
Now that I can ID this bird, I love to see it.
It sat in the sun for a long while.

Hike in the Forest

Found the 3" Hemlock varnish shelf fungus.
It was as hard as a rock.
They are edible but too tough to eat.
Anyone who has tried to remove one of these brackets will tell you that they are rock hard; so hard, in fact, that they can be carved into works of art and beautiful jewelry.
